About the artist:

Robert Combas was born in Lyon in 1957. He spent his childhood and adolescence in Sète. Emerging against a backdrop of the dominance of conceptual art and a return to figuration in the late 70s, the work of Robert Combas, discovered by the public on the occasion of the Musée de Saint-Étienne exhibition “Après le classicisme”, came as a great surprise in France. Influenced by Rock and Roll, comics, graphic arts and the North African signs the artist saw in Sète, Robert Combas invented a complex iconography that blends, without hierarchy, scholarly and popular culture. He uses recycled materials and cardboard as supports for expressionist paintings, which he elaborates drawing inspiration from his teenage years.
